Saya Powell

Facilitator & BIPOC Advisory Council Member

Saya Powell is a BIPOC Advisory Council Member and Facilitator at L4L. As a community builder and equity leader with over 15 years of experience in the non-profit sector, her approach is rooted in building trusting relationships, creating inclusive learning communities, and leading with love.


Saya currently serves as the Director of People and Culture at Leading Educators (LE), where she leads internal communication, org-wide learning and events, and manager development initiatives. Previously, she served as LE’s Associate Director of Special Events and Operations, leading operations for professional development events drawing up to 500+ attendees.


Before joining LE, Saya served in various roles at Teach for America for 11 years, including Managing Director of Talent, Strategy and Operations for the South Carolina region and Director of Institute Operations for the Philadelphia Summer Institute. She also worked as an English teacher at a junior high school in Hitachiomiya, Japan.


Saya graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, with a degree in International Studies and Spanish. Saya is certified in Mental Health First Aid and is working toward Diversity Coach Certification through the Coach Diversity Institute. She grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, and currently resides in Washington, DC. Saya is an avid sports fan, dog lover, vegan baker, and adores being an aunt to four amazing nephews.
